Boudoir Photoshoot Process: Here’s What to Expect at Black Lace Boudoir!

And if you’re feeling shy or self-conscious—your photographer at Black Lace Boudoir is here to ensure you feel comfortable and at ease throughout the entire process.

We have a unique one-of-a-kind process at Black Lace Boudoir and want you to feel confident booking your boudoir session with us. As such, we’re giving you the 411 on our boudoir process – so you know exactly what to expect when you book a boudoir photoshoot! 

First – What is a Boudoir Photography Session?

The word Boudoir derives from a French term that means “to dress up”. The concept of boudoir photography started in the nineteenth century when aristocratic men would commission artists to paint their wives and mistresses in luxurious settings.

The tradition has evolved into what we know today as boudoir photography: a form of art that showcases the beauty and sensuality of the female form in various states of dress and undress.

At Black Lace Boudoir, we’re committed to providing an empowering experience for our clients. We want you to feel beautiful, confident, and empowered by your experience with us—so whether you’re buying this photoshoot as a gift or doing it just for yourself, we’ll work with you to create something truly unique and personal to you!

Step #1 Boudoir Process Step: Pre-Session Video Chat 

Your boudoir experience includes a pre-session video chat where we help you with outfits, what to bring and more. You can also choose to wear items from our Client Closet, which offers over 500+ items!

This video chat is all about us getting to know one another so that you feel comfortable on the day of your photoshoot. You will video chat with me (aka – Ramilyn T – owner and photographer at Black Lace Boudoir!)

I will learn about you, your style, personality and discuss your boudoir photoshoot. We will help you pick out outfits, go over what to bring, the style or theme of your photoshoot, and discuss anything else that might be on your mind.

You’ll learn all about our process and what we do during the session (including hair and makeup), so there are no surprises. Once we’ve gone through all the details, we’ll schedule dates for your shoot at our luxury boudoir studio in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

We require all clients to pre-purchase products before their session. During your video chat, we will discuss products and payment plans 

* Please note: Our policy requires clients to set up a pre-purchasing payment plan within 14 days of booking their session. This  aligns with your video call being the deadline.

We do this to help create a more relaxing day where clients can focus more on their experience rather than the financial aspect.

Step #2 Boudoir Process: Prepare for a 5ish hour event

The session itself is around 1-2 hours. The total time frame you will be in the studio will be around 5ish hours. Keep in mind that we offer same-day reveal, so once your session is complete, we will begin doing a base edit on your images, then present your gallery to you shortly after.

We recommend eating a balanced breakfast and drinking plenty of water before your photoshoot. You should bring some water with you so you can stay hydrated during the session. Depending on your location, you will want to plan ahead for any travel arrangements (hotel and flight if you are flying in from a different state) and transportation on the day of your photoshoot.

We have a private studio located in downtown Fredericksburg, VA. Our studio offers an Exclusive Client Closet, a Private Dressing Room & bathroom, and a beautifully decorated studio with Hollywood Glam decor to set the mood for your luxury shoot.

Step #3 Boudoir Process: Wardrobe guidance + access to our client closet

We will provide you with wardrobe guidance, and you’ll have access to our client closet with 500+ pieces to choose from that you can borrow for your session. That includes shoes, jewelry, and other items you can pair together to create that perfect look! You are more than welcome to bring your own outfits to the shoot.

**All items are properly sanitized before and after being tried on. We REQUIRE clients to wear their underwear under ANY items they borrow from the client closet.**

You are welcome to bring as many outfits as you’d like to your session. Once you arrive, we can help you sort your outfits and pair them with accessories like shoes, jewelry, etc. We allow up to 4 changes for the session, giving you plenty of options to create different fun themes and styles.

Step #4 Boudoir Process: Professional hair and makeup 

You’re going to look like a goddess for the day. A professional makeup artist will be on hand to do your makeup and hair, so you can expect to look flawless and fresh-faced. 

Depending on what style you choose, they may also apply some false lashes, but if you are opting for a more natural look, our make-up artist will work with you to give you a dewy-natural look that you will love. 

Step #5 Boudoir Process: Coaching on facial expressions and posing guidance

Boudoir photography is about feeling confident in your own skin and having fun with it! That’s why we offer coaching on how to best express yourself during your session. We want you to feel comfortable, so we’ll walk you through what we’re doing every step of the way—and how to look your best while doing it.

I’m here to make you feel amazing. During your shoot, I will coach you on how to use your facial expressions and body language to create the most flattering photos possible. I’ll also help you pose in ways that highlight your best assets and give you tips on how to move in front of the camera.

Step #6 Boudoir Process: Time for the fun part! Your photoshoot!

During your photoshoot, you will have access to our luxury private studio! Our studio is the only studio in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and the surrounding areas, that specifically caters to boudoir and glamor portraits for the modern everyday women.

You will have access to all three spaces, including the main space, the lounge, and the vanity. We will coach you through different poses and capture you in the most beautiful light. We offer 4 outfit changes and can help pair you with the appropriate props for each space. 

Step #6 Boudoir Process: Enjoy the same day reveal!

Black Lace Boudoir is the only studio in Fredericksburg, Richmond, and Northern Virginia that provides our clients with the immediate gratification of seeing their beautiful images the same day as their session. 

At the reveal & review, I will present a slideshow, and help you choose your favorite images. I will also help you choose any final customizations to your order such as which image for wall art, album cover, and design of wall displays, etc.

The best part is you will have already pre-purchased your products by this point, so you can sit back and enjoy

Step #7  Upgrade your speciality products

We require all clients to pre-purchase their products before their session. But – you will have the option to upgrade your products the day of your reveal. You can view our specialty products below.
